A GP-led ADHD service now available in Galway. ADHDWest provides assessment, diagnosis and management of ADHD in patients aged 18+.

We accept self-referrals from new patients but we give priority to GP referrals. Please send GP referrals to adhd.west@healthmail.ie.

Services At ADHDWest

Getting an accurate diagnosis can be one of the most impactful experiences that you can have.

If you have a complex mental health history and think you also have ADHD you should attend a service with a multidisciplinary team. We are unable to offer such a service at present.

Visit One

At your first visit you will meet our practice nurse. It will take 30 minutes and is an in-person appointment. Virtual appointments are not available for Visit 1.

At your first visit you will meet our practice nurse and you will have:

  • A physical examination: height, weight, BMI, pulse, blood pressure
  • ECG
  • Non-fasting Bloods
  • ADHD screening questionnaire
  • Past Medical History discussed

Visit Two

At this visit you will meet our GPs who have specialist training in ADHD.

This visit will take 1.5 to 2 hours and is an in-person appointment.

  • A comprehensive medical history including previous mental health history, medications and personal history. We will also explore collateral histories at this visit.
  • The clinician administered DIVA- 5 is the Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults. This is a standardised tool and will be used to assess your ADHD symptoms. This provides a comprehensive and consistent evaluation of ADHD symptoms in both childhood and adulthood and explores the impact of these symptoms on your life.
  • At the end of the visit, if the assessment confirms you have a diagnosis of ADHD, a comprehensive treatment plan will be put in place including signposting to psychological supports and medication options where appropriate.

Medication
Reviews

  • Medication can be effective in the treatment of ADHD. It can, however, take a number of reviews to find the effective medication and dose for you.
  • Once you are on the right medication for you we are happy for you to continue your care with your own GP. If this is not possible we can continue look after your ADHD.

Annual
Review

  • At your annual review your symptoms and medication will be assessed.
  • If needed, your medication can be adjusted. We use standardised rating scales for this assessment.

Meet The Team

Our team are here to help you navigate and manage a diagnosis of ADHD.

Dr. Brian Osborne

Dr Brian Osborne is a graduate of UCD and a GP since 2007. He was awarded first place graduate by the Irish College of GPs in 2007. He has a special interest in mental health. He has completed specialist training in ADHD assessment with the UK Adult ADHD Network (UKAAN) and ADHD training with the Royal College of Psychiatrists and engages in continual ADHD education.

Dr. Kate Murphy

Dr Kate Murphy is a graduate of UCD and she has been working as a GP since 2007. She has extensive experience and knowledge of mental health. Dr Murphy has completed her training in ADHD assessment under the UK Adult ADHD Network (UKAAN) and ADHD training with the Royal College of Psychiatrists and engages in regular peer review with ADHD clinicians and psychiatry colleagues.

Paula Hallinan – Practice Nurse

Paula has worked in University Hospital, Galway across many specialties and has been a practice nurse for 10 years. She guides and supports patients through their healthcare needs.
